Kaohsiung 高雄 (Day)

Walking Trip 

13 Nov 2011 Sunday morning don't have any plan. So planning to walk to Carrefour 家乐福. Its not near but walkable, cycle will take around 40mins (3 KMRT station away) as heard from other friends. Planning to look at Taiwan supermarket and buy some groceries + snacks. Without any map and roughly remember its by the Ai He and near Kaohsiung Train Station. So start navigate myself toward east and sea must be at my right hand and mountain at my back. with this landmark in head, i start to walk east.

Along the way pass-by some interesting places. First came across SiZiWan MRT station O1 捷運西子灣站. Then just across the petrol kiosk is Takao Railway Museum 打狗鐵道故事館.

 Its FREE! so just walk in and have a look and take some photo of some old locomotive.

All this locomotive are heading to the Kaohsiung Harbor 

All this rail track are no longer in use and are make into jogging path and bicycle path. 

Then continue walking... 

and walking and arrive at YanChengPu MRT station O2 捷運鹽埕埔站‎ (behind me)... This bald tree attract me and the cat infront. Its autumn and winter is coming ...  

walk a few KM then came across all this super hero statue (no idea their name or ever seen them anywhere). Only realize this is Kaohsiung film museum 高雄市電影館 when walk to the front.

Finally arrive at Ai he 爱河 but not sure to walk left or right... follow my instinct and walk left toward north. Walk along the river but don't see much activities going on... only some old people gathering here and there under the tree playing Chinese chess, sleeping, listening to music... not a single young people around.

 Then suddenly out of nowhere saw Carrefour just in front of me across the river.

Bought some dried food, instant noodle and most important Taiwan beer....

Another long journey back to my hostel.... another long journey back :(

Walk pass Kaohsiung Museum of History 高雄市立歷史博物館... Read properly Museum of History!! Museum suppose to keep something that is past or history... In another word this is a museum of museum.. lol 

Few KM down the road facing sea as i walk... come to this arch entrance to Kaohsiung Harbor 高雄港

Kaohsiung Harbor is one of the world busiest port in the world... it was once rank top 10 in the world... its still busy and important harbor in Taiwan and ship heading to mainland China and Japan. It is also known as Harbor Capital (港都) of Taiwan.

 

On the way back pass by another building which is Navy base

Saw this and familiar and i am near to hostel. this is just directly outside the campus. All the fishing boat will stop here.

This is the main and important tunnel 西子灣隧道 which lead into the campus and most student use this tunnel to enter and exit campus... The tunnel was once used as a bomb shelter during the American bombing raids in World War II

P/s : all the photos look dull because the sky in Kaohsiung is always hazy due to high concentrations of heavy industry, including steel production, shipbuilding, and other exports
